Elizabeth brings 20+ years of experience in marketing, journalism and nursing to the helm of Hanes Healthcare Communications. Her professional background includes stints in public relations, marketing, management, nursing and freelancing.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing degree, Elizabeth returned to college for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. As an RN, she cared for patients in the perioperative setting (pre-, intra- and post-) at a Level I Trauma Center and, later, served as the primary clinic nurse in a solo-physician plastic surgery practice affiliated with a small medical group.
In 2011, Elizabeth returned to full-time freelance writing because she wanted to use her nursing knowledge to help as many healthcare consumers as possible (instead of only the half-dozen per day her clinical career allowed). She also applies her insider knowledge of healthcare to benefit clients.
Elizabeth's unique background in marketing, writing and nursing allow her to craft content with a credibility that rings authentic to readers and builds their trust. She's known for producing digital healthcare content that enhances SEO while also appealing to the human reader - because the Googlebot will never be buying your product or service.
In 2016, Elizabeth became the first (and possibly only) healthcare freelance writer to speak on a panel at Content Marketing World. She also has appeared on a number of podcasts to discuss healthcare content writing, what it's like to be a freelance nurse-writer, and other topics. She also mentors other nurses who want to become writers through her RN2Writer project.
