Elizabeth Hanes, RN
Founder and CEO
Elizabeth brings 20+ years of experience in marketing, journalism and nursing to the helm of Hanes Healthcare Communications. She started her work life in non-profit public relations and marketing, followed by life as a middle manager and freelance writer before leaving mid-career to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a nurse.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, she cared for patients in the perioperative setting (pre-, intra- and post-) at a Level I Trauma Center and, later, served as the primary clinic nurse in a solo-physician plastic surgery practice affiliated with a small medical group.
One day, while instructing a patient about post-op drain care, she recognized that her favorite part of nursing was teaching. At home later that evening, she expressed her frustration over only being able to teach, at most, half-a-dozen patients each day. And then the lightbulb came on. She said to her late husband, “You know, with a single article published online I could reach literally millions of patients all at once.”
Within weeks, she had traded her steth for a keyboard again, returned to freelance journalism and began writing consumer health articles for a variety of publications. Since then, she has helped untold patients, clients and healthcare brands connect over the high-quality content only a nurse can produce.
Elizabeth serves as the company’s creative director and chief strategist. Her extensive healthcare background brings a unique, intimate knowledge of customer “pain points” from both the business and consumer sides. This insider information imbues every asset she writes with credibility, resulting in content that rings authentic to readers, builds their trust and closes the deal.

We Give Back
When I was 14 years old, I was recruited to a friend's competitive fast-pitch softball team, and it had a profound impact on my life. Wearing #2 and playing third base that summer, I learned a lot about teamwork, grinding, and how to handle adversity.
Today, I donate 2% of my annual gross revenue to sponsor fast-pitch softball teams in Albuquerque. When you work with us, you also support these young women. I hope you take pride in knowing your content projects enable these girls to learn important life lessons they can carry with them forever.
For content projects that exceed the limits of what she can produce on her own in a 24-hour day, Elizabeth calls on the services of a group of highly qualified freelance writers whom she’s known for many years. Many of the writers who work with Hanes Healthcare Communications are also nurses or hold some other clinical credential. Each person chosen to work on a client project has demonstrated excellence through a portfolio of relevant work, their reliability and their all-around awesomeness. Our team excels at crafting fine content that meets the unique requirements of each client’s content strategy, marketing objectives and voice and tone.
